CAD for Mechanical Design

Computer Aided Design (CAD) is used to model and design mechanical parts for our department.

This is most commonly used later in the design process for enclosures, mounts, etc.

1 Initial Software Installs / Setup

  1. Onshape*

    • No install! All completely cloud based.

  2. Siemens NX via OTU Student License* only for Windows

    • Simens NX is our primary high performance CAD software (FEA), as is with majority, if not all departments in OTR.

  3. SolidWorks via OTU Student License (Suggested) only for Windows

    • SolidWorks is used for super specific scenarios where certain features are required, however you'll likely need to export .stl or .step.

  4. AutoDesk Fusion 360 (Suggested)

  5. AutoDesk Inventor (Suggested)
